When an object is left behind at a major venue—be it a sprawling airport or a crowded sports stadium—a standardized ritual begins. The staff follows a specific protocol to handle the forgotten misplaced item:

• Capture: Take a photograph of the object.
• Catalog: Log the item into the system.
• Wait: Hold the item until a claimant appears.

The Digital Excavation

Many of these institutions rely on a single, ubiquitous software tool to manage their inventories. By using a scraping script, I was able to delve into these archives, uncovering a massive collection of images.
