Punch yourself in the face with reality
Confronting the Brutal Truth: A Wake-Up Call for the AI Era

Who is truly capable of delivering the hardest blow of reality to their own ego?
The Trap of Infinite Production
It is incredibly easy to spiral into a cycle of hyper-productivity, constructing an endless array of tools. While playing around with Claude, ChatGPT, and various AI agents can feel like progress, the grim reality is that the vast majority of these projects will be discarded, never finding a permanent home in a user's workflow.
This mindless production is the breeding ground for what we now call "AI slop"—that hollow, synthetic output and digital psychosis that the world is beginning to despise.
"The danger isn't that we can't build; it's that we build things that don't matter."
The New Face of Procrastination
In the pre-AI era, the "first step" required significant effort. Now, AI allows us to leapfrog that initial hurdle instantly. Ideally, this should push us toward the actual problem faster. However, for many, it has done the opposite.
I have witnessed countless founders deceive themselves, spending months in a development vacuum without having a single genuine conversation with a potential customer. This is especially prevalent among technical builders.
Building more features = Success This is a lie.
If your only skill is "building," and you use AI to accelerate that process without validation, you aren't innovating—you are simply procrastinating. You were likely avoiding the hard work before AI; now, the AI just makes your avoidance more visible.
The Value Equation
If a task is trivial for everyone to execute, it provides zero competitive advantage.
| The Illusion (Easy) | The Reality (Hard) |
|---|---|
| Rapidly writing code | Finding a problem worth solving |
| Polished landing page copy | Getting a stranger to pay for the product |
| A professional pitch deck | Surviving the emotional toll of failure |
Deploying AI agents | Relentless user validation |
The Bottleneck Myth
AI has not made starting a successful company "easier." The bottleneck was never the speed of coding, the phrasing of a presentation, or the aesthetics of a website.
History is littered with failed startups whose founders spent far too much time building irrelevant features. Even before the AI revolution, the primary cause of death was a lack of honesty regarding whether the product actually worked in the real world.
def startup_loop(founder):
while not founder.has_user_feedback():
founder.build_more_features() # This is the procrastination loop
print("I'm being productive!")
return "Reality Check"
The Enduring Hardships
The elements that actually drive success remain stubbornly difficult. AI cannot automate the emotional grit required for entrepreneurship.
The "Hard Stuff" Checklist:
- Taking genuine, terrifying risks with your life.
- Attaching your public identity to a project.
- Enduring repeated, face-to-face rejection.
- Maintaining courage when you are the only believer.
- Accepting the guilt of letting others down.
- Watching your peers advance while you feel stagnant.
Did an LLM make any of those experiences easier? No. Instead, AI allows you to retreat into a digital bubble, imagining success while an agent cheers you on, all while you achieve nothing of substance.
The Final Delta
In an age where execution is commoditized, the only remaining competitive advantage—the true —is the pursuit of truth.
The only way to find that truth is to repeatedly, and violently, punch yourself in the face with reality.
