🚀 Pebble Mega Update – July 2026

Published: July 14, 2026 | rePebble Blog

TL;DR: We are nearly finished with Pebble Time 2 shipping, our software team has massively boosted battery life and SDK capabilities, Index 01 is now live in the app, and we're reworking our Bluetooth protocol to enable EU notification replies.

📦 Production & Shipping Status

Since kicking off mass production in late March, the team has successfully manufactured over 23,000 Pebble Time 2 (PT2) units. We have now fulfilled more than 80% of all pre-orders!

For those still waiting (including those in Batch 6 - August), please refer to the expected shipping schedule below:

Model ColorExpected Ship Date
GreyJuly 28
BlueJuly 28
BlackJuly 31
RedJuly 31

This means we are waiting on production almost "in-stock"! If you've been hesitant to buy due to wait times, now is the window to act. Once this current batch is gone, we will revert to pre-order status until the next shipment arrives.

🌟 Shoutouts & Support

A massive thank you to our lean three-person logistics and support squad—Claudio, Trevor, and Colin. They've managed thousands of inquiries and ensured watches reached wrists across 93 different countries.

  • Need help? Reach out via email at [email protected].
  • Accessories: Now available at shop.repebble.com (a full range of straps is coming soon).

💻 Software Progress & Roadmap

Our core software team (just four people!) has spent the last half-year releasing a mountain of open-source updates.

🔋 Battery Optimization

Thanks to the tireless work of Gerard, we've significantly trimmed power consumption within PebbleOS.

The results are impressive:

  • Pebble 2 Duo: Median battery life increased from 17 days→30+ days17 \text{ days} \rightarrow 30+ \text{ days}17 days→30+ days.
  • Pebble Time 2: Currently averaging ≈21 days\approx 21 \text{ days}≈21 days, with more gains expected.

Power Consumption Analysis: The primary "battery killers" are the backlight, high-animation watchfaces, and health monitoring. To hypermile your device, we recommend:

  1. Using a static or low-animation watchface.
  2. Enabling Battery Saver backlight mode via Settings →\rightarrow→ Display →\rightarrow→ Backlight.

🛠️ SDK & App Ecosystem

Collaborating with the Moddable team, we've rolled out several SDK enhancements:

  • New APIs:
    • Touch Screen API (perfect for wrist-based calculators).
    • Speaker API (ideal for Tamagotchis or guitar tuning).
    • RGB Backlight API (see it in action with the Chinese Toy Phone app).
  • Logic Improvements: Apps can now detect the specific trigger used for a quick launch (e.g., long press vs. single press).
  • Alloy (JS) Enhancements:
    • FFI: Ability to execute C code inside Alloy JS apps (similar to the Android NDK).
    • Debugging: New JS APIs and a powerful debugger.

To launch the XSBUG debugger, use the following command:

pebble build --debug

(This defines PBL_DEBUG and initiates the debugger).

Community Impact: Developers have already contributed 2,120 apps and watchfaces for the PT2 and PR2!

📑 Index 01 Integration

The initial version of Index 01 is now fully operational within the mobile app. To activate: Settings →\rightarrow→ General →\rightarrow→ Enable Index feed.

Key Features:

  • Syncing: Integrates with Google Tasks, Obsidian, iOS Reminders, and Calendars.
  • Control: Android music control and MCPs.
  • Data: Send transcriptions or recordings to your own app/server via Webhooks.
  • Privacy: Cloud backups are protected by optional encryption where you hold the keys.
  • Transparency: The project is open source at github.com/coredevices/mobileapp.
  • Web Access: View your data at index.rePebble.com.

🛠️ Stability & The PPoGATT Shift

We've implemented hundreds of fixes based on user feedback. One major technical hurdle we are tackling is the reverse PPoGATT (Pebble Protocol over GATT).

The Problem: Originally, the app exposed the service to bypass iOS IPC limitations. This is non-standard for Bluetooth accessories and prevents us from using iOS AccessorySetupKit (ASK). The Goal: ASK is required for the Notification Forwarding feature (EU only), which allows users to reply to notifications. The Solution: We must move to a "Reverse PPoGATT" role. This requires a recovery firmware update for all watches. (Note: Pebble Round 2 already has this update).

🤝 Community Contributions

We are energized by the "hacker" spirit of the Pebble community. Recent PRs have added:

  • Google and Apple HealthKit synchronization.
  • Refined light sensor logic and notification filters.
  • Expanded language support.

Coming Soon from the Community:

  • HRV\text{HRV}HRV and SpO2\text{SpO}_2SpO2 monitoring.
  • Heart Rate Monitor (HRM) exposure via BLE.
  • Microphone API and multiple BLE clients.

🗺️ Future Software Roadmap

We build this software because we use these watches. Here is what we are tackling next:

  • Send Text App (Android exclusive)
  • Find My Phone functionality
  • New Weather App for PT2/PR2 (designed by grim, Spring Developer Contest winner)
  • UI Polishing for PebbleOS on Round 2
  • Mobile App UI overhaul
  • WYSIWYG Watchface Editor (the successor to Pebble Canvas)
  • Full Reverse PPoGATT Transition to enable ASK
