Rise Reforming is seeking a talented Senior Chemical Process Engineer to join our growing team in the Chicago area. We are a Y Combinator-backed startup (S26) dedicated to solving supply chain vulnerabilities in the American chemical industry.

🛠️ The Role & Responsibilities
We are looking for an expert capable of scaling catalytic technologies from the lab to pilot stages and eventually to full commercialization. You will be the primary driver in the design, construction, and commissioning of our pilot unit, which will pave the way for our first commercial-scale facility.
Core Competencies Required:
- Pilot Plant Management: Ability to procure, integrate, operate, and maintain pilot-scale hardware.
- Commissioning: Proven experience in the commissioning and operational phases of chemical plants.
- System Design: Expertise in implementing recycling loops.
- Chemical Processes: Deep knowledge of gas-to-liquids (GTL) processes, with a strong preference for syngas-to-methanol experience.
- External Collaboration: Ability to work alongside EPCs to oversee the design of the First-Of-A-Kind (FOAK) commercial unit.
- Software Proficiency: Mastery of
Aspenor equivalent process simulation tools.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Integration and design of PLC/SCADA systems.
- Experience developing modular systems.
- A track record of thriving within the high-velocity environment of a startup.

🌍 About Rise Reforming
The US chemical industry is often left vulnerable by natural disasters and geopolitical instability. While the US generates enough biogas to support a market value of:
Unfortunately, 60% of this resource is currently flared or wasted in low-margin applications.
Rise Reforming is changing this by commercializing a modular process that converts underutilized biogas on-site into affordable, secure chemicals, specifically:

- Dimethyl Ether (DME)
Current Milestone
We are currently implementing our pilot project at a wastewater treatment plant in the Chicagoland area. This represents the first wastewater biogas-to-methanol demonstration in the Americas.
