Galaxium: An Experimental WebGPU Space Explorer

Galaxium is a project designed to let users explore the universe in 3D using the power of WebGPU.

🛠 Technical Status & Known Issues

Currently, there is a specific bug regarding how the application handles asset requests. Specifically, the system is misrouting data fetches for texture files.

Issue: Pages are resolving data fetches like data/foo.ktx2 to the root /data/ directory rather than the intended object directory.

Path Resolution Comparison

Request TypeCurrent (Incorrect) PathTarget (Correct) Path
Texture Fetch/data/foo.ktx2/obj/data/foo.ktx2

Logic Flow

Implementation Detail

The current resolution logic behaves as follows:

// Current problematic resolution
const fetchPath = (file) => `/data/${file}`;

// Desired resolution
const fetchPathFixed = (file) => `/obj/data/${file}`;

Development Roadmap

  • Implement WebGPU rendering
  • Fix .ktx2 path resolution
  • Expand 3D universe assets

Spatial Calculations

To navigate this 3D space, the engine calculates the distance ddd between two cosmic points using: d=(x2−x1)2+(y2−y1)2+(z2−z1)2d = \sqrt{(x_2-x_1)^2 + (y_2-y_1)^2 + (z_2-z_1)^2}d=(x2−x1)2+(y2−y1)2+(z2−z1)2
