Mistral now trains on user input by default, except on enterprise tier

Note: This documentation is provided under the SIL Open Font License, Version 1.1.
Overview of Data Usage
Mistral has updated its policies regarding how user-generated content is handled. In specific scenarios, your input and output data—which encompasses conversations, uploaded files, and other content provided by the user—may be integrated into Mistral's model training pipelines.
🔑 User Sovereignty: You maintain complete authority over this process and possess the right to withdraw your data from these training programs at any moment.
The mathematical logic of their data collection can be viewed as:
Training Defaults by Tier
The default setting for data collection depends entirely on your account level:
| Account Tier | Default Training Status | Management Level |
|---|---|---|
| Standard User | Enabled (Opt-in by default) | Individual User |
| Enterprise | Admin Level |
How to Opt Out of Training
Because Mistral operates across different platforms, the method for opting out varies. Crucially, opting out of one service does not automatically opt you out of others.
1. Vibe (Web Interface)
Note: Vibe Le Chat has been rebranded simply as Vibe.
To stop your interactions from being used for training:
- Navigate to the
Managesection of your account. - Select
Vibe. - Locate the
Privacyarea. - Switch the toggle
Allow your interactions to be used to train our modelsto Off.
📌 Important: Any documents you upload or attach within Vibe are classified as input data. If you wish to keep these documents private from the training set, you must disable the toggle.
2. Vibe (Mobile App)
For users on iOS and Android, follow these steps:
- Open the Settings menu.
- Find the Data Account Controls panel.
- Uncheck the box labeled
Enable data sharing.
3. Mistral Studio & API
API and Studio data are handled separately from Vibe. To opt out:
- Access the
Admin panel. - Click on the
Privacymenu in the left-hand sidebar. - Under the
Anonymous improvement datasection, disable the toggle. This prevents API calls and associated metadata from being used for service improvements.
Opt-Out Workflow Logic
Summary Checklist for Full Privacy
If you want to ensure none of your data is used across any Mistral service, complete the following:
- Disable training in Vibe Web settings.
- Deselect data sharing in the Vibe Mobile app.
- Turn off anonymous improvement data in the Studio/API Admin panel.
Technical Implementation Note
When a user triggers the opt-out, the system logic follows a strict boolean check:
def check_training_eligibility(user_profile):
if user_profile.tier == "Enterprise":
return False # Opted out by default
if user_profile.opt_out_enabled == True:
return False # User manually opted out
return True # Data is used for training
