🚀 SvelteKit 3 is Officially Here!

The Svelte Team | October 1, 2026

The wait is over: Version 3.0 of SvelteKit, the premier application framework for Svelte, has been released.

For those who have worked with previous iterations, the experience will feel intuitive. It is essentially the same framework you love, but with enhanced polish, stricter type safety, and unnecessary bloat significantly less junk.

🛠️ Transitioning to v3

We have aimed to make the upgrade process as frictionless as possible. You can leverage the sv migrate utility to handle the heavy lifting:

npx sv migrate sveltekit - 3 -- tasks all -- confirm

This command automates the majority of the codebase updates and provides a structured checklist for any remaining manual adjustments.

Pro Tip: If you utilize AI agents, your robotic assistants will likely breeze through these remaining tasks in no time.

To kickstart a brand new project, simply execute: npx sv create my-new-app

Migration Checklist

  • Run the migration command
  • Review the migration guide
  • Check the RC announcement for breaking changes
  • Verify type safety in vite.config.ts

⚡ Key Improvements

🌐 Remote Functions: The Future of Communication

Are remote functions ready for primetime? Yes.

Remote functions provide a suite of tools designed for secure, high-efficiency, and type-safe communication between the client and the server. While other frameworks have attempted similar patterns, we believe our implementation is superior.

Note: To utilize these, you must use Async Svelte, which currently requires an experimental flag: --experimental-async-svelte

🇸🇮 Join us in Ljubljana!

We want to remind the community that the next Svelte Summit is happening on November 19-20 in the beautiful city of Ljubljana, Slovenia.

This gathering will be particularly special as we celebrate Svelte's 10th birthday. We look forward to seeing you there and sharing some cake! 🍰
