Show HN: Offrun – manage every coding agent from one workspace

Original article
offrun.dev|62 points|32 comments|by arunbhatia|Oct 3, 2026

Technical Note on Implementation The encoding declaration is placed at the very beginning to ensure it falls within the first 1024 bytes of the document, following standard convention. Previously, this was an inline block mirrored across five separate pages. To avoid the risks of "copy-paste" errors in critical code, it was consolidated into a single file. This approach also ensures compliance with Google's mandate of one tag per page. The tab labels are kept concise for narrow strips, while link previews provide the necessary detail—specifically naming the three CLIs—to drive user engagement.

Offrun: A Unified Command Center for Coding Agents

Manage every coding agent from a single, streamlined workspace.

Offrun allows you to monitor active tasks, identify which agents require your attention, and track the remaining quota for all your linked accounts.

🤖 Agent Orchestration

Current status of active agents:

  • Claude (billing-svc): Working (1m 12s) — 38%
  • Codex (billing-svc): Needs you (4m 05s) — 61%
  • AGY (api-gateway): Working (0m 48s) — 22%
  • Claude (offrun-site): Idle — 9%

🛠 Core Features

01. Isolated Worktrees

Agents that never step on each other.

Offrun assigns a dedicated git worktree to every agent within a project. This ensures that multiple agents operating on the same repository never collide or overwrite the same files.

You can simultaneously execute a major refactor and a critical bug fix, merging them only when you are ready.

Example Scenario:

  • Project: billing-svc
  • Task: Fix flaky upload test.
  • Discovery: The test was racing the network by checking the file before the upload finished.
MetricBefore FixAfter Fix
Passed41 of 5050 of 50
Failed90

02. Integrated Peer Review

A second set of eyes before you even see the diff.

You can designate a reviewer agent to analyze changes. The findings are delivered directly into the chat before the code is committed. You can request fixes, which are then placed in your message box for final approval.

Case Study: Retry Logic An agent suggests: "Cap the retry backoff at 30 seconds and add jitter."

The implementation uses the following logic: wait=min⁡(2n×100,30,000)\text{wait} = \min(2^n \times 100, 30,000)wait=min(2n×100,30,000) jitter=wait×0.2×Math.random()\text{jitter} = \text{wait} \times 0.2 \times \text{Math.random()}jitter=wait×0.2×Math.random()

// Implementation snippet
const wait = Math.min(Math.pow(2, n) * 100, 30000);
const jitter = wait * 0.2 * Math.random();
await sleep(wait + jitter);

Review by Codex: ⚠️ Warning in src/retry.js:2 — The 30-second cap exceeds the gateway's 25-second timeout; the final retry will be truncated.

03. Seamless Account Switching

Hit a limit? Keep coding.

When a specific account reaches its usage cap, Offrun automatically suggests migrating the conversation to a login with available quota. Simply resend your message, and the new account inherits the full conversation history.

🌐 The Workspace Experience

🧠 Project Memory

Stop the "forgetting" cycle. Offrun maintains a persistent memory layer:

  1. Global: Repo-wide conventions stored in conventions.md.
  2. Local: Agent-specific goals, plans, and failed attempts recorded in plan.md and dead-ends.md.

Agents read this context at startup and update it as they progress, ensuring the fourth session doesn't repeat the mistakes of the first.

🔔 Universal Notifications

Offrun monitors agents across your entire Mac, including those running in external terminals. You'll receive a notification the moment an agent:

  • Finishes a task.
  • Requests approval (e.g., npm install).
  • Asks a clarifying question.

👁️ Instant Preview

Review work without leaving the chat interface. The preview pane supports:

  • Line-numbered diffs and changed files.
  • Rendered Markdown and Tables.
  • Images and PDFs.
  • A lightweight integrated browser.

⚙️ Operational Modes

  • Build: The agent modifies the code and executes it to verify the fix.
  • Planner: The agent outlines the strategy in writing without altering any files.

🎙️ On-Device Dictation

Hold a key to speak your prompts. Offrun handles transcription locally, ensuring that code identifiers (like retryBackoffHelper) are spelled correctly based on your project's vocabulary.

🔒 Privacy & Data Handling

Offrun is designed to be transparent about what leaves your machine.
