LineageOS 24.0: Changelog 32

Slick Seventeen, Awesome Applications, Universal USB Tools

Published on October 11, 2026, by Nolen Johnson (npjohnson)

"We’re feeling a bit nostalgic with this particular update, as it paves the way for a very exciting milestone coming soon. This project is a testament to the passion of our developers, maintainers, and the community who refuse to let their hardware fade away. This release is another step in that journey—a moment to reflect on our progress and thank you all for your unwavering trust and support."

The past year has been an intense ride, but our primary goal remained steadfast: delivering a version of LineageOS powered by Android 17 to the global community. Since Android 17 debuted in June, we have been diligently rebasing our custom features. While the initial Google release focused on iterative UX/UI tweaks, our previous experience navigating Google's aggressive refactoring allowed us to integrate the new codebase much faster than expected.

🛡️ Security Patch Integration

We have successfully merged security updates spanning from August 2025→October 2026\text{August 2025} \rightarrow \text{October 2026}August 2025→October 2026 across versions 18.1 through 24.0.

Patch Distribution Matrix

BranchPatch RangeString Updated?Notes
LOS 21 →\rightarrow→ 24Aug '25 - Oct '26✅Full bulletins merged
LOS 18.1 →\rightarrow→ 20.0Aug '25 - Oct '26❌Backported; not "attestable"
Legacy (15.1, 16.0, 17.1)Through Nov '25❌Closing the backport gap

Important Note: For legacy branches, we are nearing the end of feasible backporting. However, we hit a wall with the December 2025 bulletins.

  • Community Call: If you can adapt the difficult December 2025 patches, please push them to Gerrit for review!

LineageOS App Ecosystem

🔌 WebUSB Flashing Tools

We are simplifying the installation process. Instead of searching for and installing bulky desktop software, we are introducing browser-based tools.

These tools allow direct communication between your browser and the device. While the LineageOS Wiki remains the gold standard for official instructions, WebUSB provides a streamlined alternative for those who prefer to avoid extra software.

⚠️ Caution: Compatibility depends on your OS, browser, and cable. Always:

  1. Back up your data.
  2. Verify the target device and files.
  3. Follow the on-screen prompts carefully.

Kudos to Nicholas Lim and Luk1337 for developing these tools!

⚙️ CI/CD Infrastructure

To ensure stability, we've overhauled how code is tested and deployed.

Continuous Integration (CI)

The CI system now provides CI+1 or CI-1 votes on core and app repositories. It automates:

  • pre-commit hooks.
  • lint and clang-format checks.
  • REUSE compliance and licensing audits.

Continuous Deployment (CD)

We now use GitHub Actions to automate artifact delivery.

# Example of the CD trigger logic
if [ "$COMMIT_MERGED" == "true" ]; then
  push_artifacts --type apk --destination github_releases
fi

Every time a commit is merged, the corresponding APKs and build artifacts are automatically pushed, ensuring the latest builds are always available.
