Reverse engineer anything with agents, from app behavior down to native binaries
REA: Reverse Engineer Anything
Mission: Empower AI agents to dissect everything from high-level application behavior down to the raw native binaries.
REA is a specialized Model Context Protocol (MCP) server that grants your AI agents the ability to perform deep reverse engineering across a variety of platforms, including native binaries, web applications, and runtime environments.
🛠️ Capabilities & Scope
Whether you want to understand a competitor's feature or audit a binary, REA provides the necessary bridge. It allows an agent to inspect an app without source code, explain the underlying logic, provide evidence, and even help you recreate the functionality.
Analysis Matrix
| Target Type | Analysis Method | Tools/Providers |
|---|---|---|
| Native Binaries | Static/Dynamic Analysis | Ghidra, Hopper, IDA |
| JS / Electron | Directory/ASAR Inspection | rea-agents CLI |
| .NET | Assembly Analysis | Integrated MCP Tools |
| Websites | Runtime/Behavioral | Integrated MCP Tools |
The Core Philosophy
The process of understanding a binary can be represented conceptually as:
⚙️ How REA Operates
REA acts as the intermediary between the AI and the technical tools. The workflow follows this logic:
🚀 Getting Started
1. Agent Integration
To register REA with your preferred AI agent and install the necessary workflow instructions, execute the following command:
- Ensure Node.js and npm are installed.
- Run the setup script:
npx rea-agents setup - Select your agent and approve the configuration changes.
Supported Agents:
- Claude Code
- Codex
- Cursor
- Gemini CLI
- Grok Build
- ...and other MCP-compatible agents.
2. Interacting with your Agent
Once configured, you can give your agent complex prompts such as:
"Analyze how the search functionality works in the Notes app, provide the evidence from the binary, and help me build a similar feature for my own project."
3. Direct CLI Usage
For those who prefer the terminal, you can analyze JavaScript or Electron applications (including ASAR files) directly:
npx -y rea-agents@latest analyze-javascript-application /absolute/path/to/app --json
Note: On Windows, use paths like D:/apps/example.
To install the rea command globally:
npm install --global rea-agents
rea --help
🔄 Maintenance and Updates
Because REA evolves rapidly, keeping it updated is crucial for bug fixes and new features.
-
For Global Installations: Run
rea update.Manual reinstallUse the built-in update command. (Note: Bun users require version 1.2.17+ for global updates; otherwise, update Bun first). -
For
npxUsers: Refresh your agent's skills by running:npx rea-agents@latest setup -
For Bun Users: Use
bunx rea-agents@latestinstead ofnpx.
