Unfenced: Discovering Private Land Adjacent to Public Wilderness

Imagine a home where you can simply walk out your back door and enter a protected wilderness. This is the core premise of Unfenced, a specialized tool designed to locate real estate for sale that directly borders public lands, such as game preserves, national forests, and wilderness areas.

"Walk out the back door."

Unlike traditional real estate searches, Unfenced does not rely on the subjective claims found in listing descriptions. Instead, it verifies properties by cross-referencing them against official boundary maps.

🛠️ How it Works & User Features

The platform allows users to navigate the landscape of available land through several methods:

  • Proximity Search: Locate parcels within a 100-mile radius.
  • State-Based Browsing: Filter listings by specific states.
  • Interactive Mapping: Open a map centered on your current location.

The data is processed using the following technical standard: USGS PAD-US 4.1

📊 Current Market Snapshot

As of October 12, 2026 (with updates occurring roughly every week), the scale of the search is significant:

  • Total Active Listings Analyzed: 695,439
  • Verified Bordering Properties: 13,626

To put this into perspective, the percentage of listings that actually border public land is: 13,626695,439≈1.96%\frac{13,626}{695,439} \approx 1.96\%695,43913,626≈1.96%
