Show HN: I built a task system to handle the drudgery so I could focus on tasks
Project Reveal: A Task System That Eliminates the Drudgery Overhead
I've developed a new approach to productivity. The goal was simple: automate the administrative burden of managing a to-do list so I could actually spend my time doing the work.
"Everything you've been meaning to accomplish, processed one single line at a time."
The Philosophy
Most systems require you to be an architect of your own productivity. This system assumes that your brain is organized messy, and that's perfectly acceptable.
How it Works
You don't need to categorize or prioritize. You just dump your thoughts. The system then applies a selection logic:
The algorithm analyzes your list and identifies the three most critical items, providing a specific rationale for why those were chosen.
Feature Comparison
| Traditional To-Do Lists | This Task System |
|---|---|
| Manual sorting & tagging | Automatic ranking |
| Overwhelming long lists | Curated top 3 |
| High cognitive load | Low-friction input |
The Workflow
Input Methods
- Textual Entry: Just type.
- Fix the leaking sink - Email the board about Q3 - Buy more coffee beans - Finish the API documentation - Voice Commands: You can simply speak your tasks.
The Delivery
If you prefer a streamlined approach, you can trigger a voice command to "stop here," and the system will send an email delivering your single most important task.
Privacy & Data Integrity
Your data security is handled with a "local-first" mentality:
- Storage: Your entries remain local to your machine unless you explicitly
sign up. - Ranking: Data only leaves your device for the purpose of being ranked.
- Voice: Your audio processing is handled entirely within the browser; your voice never leaves the client side.
Sample Output
When the system finishes its analysis, your day looks like this:
- Task A: (Reason: High urgency/deadline)
- Task B: (Reason: High impact/long-term goal)
- Task C: (Reason: Quick win/low effort)
