Dolly Parton's Imagination Library

Dolly Parton's Imagination Library

Welcome to the official hub for Dolly Parton's Imagination Library. This initiative is dedicated to cultivating a lifelong passion for literacy by providing free books to children from birth until they turn five. This mission is made possible through a collaborative funding model between Dolly Parton and various local community partners.

📖 The Heart of the Mission

The inspiration for this journey was deeply personal. Dolly's father was unable to read or write, a hardship that motivated her to ensure other children had a different start in life.

Initially, the program was only for her home county. In 1995, Dolly launched the Imagination Library specifically for the youth in her native East Tennessee. Today, the program has expanded exponentially, delivering millions of books every single month to children across five different nations.

A Message from Dolly

"When I was growing up in the hills of East Tennessee, I knew my dreams would come true. I know there are children in your community with their own dreams. They dream of becoming a doctor or an inventor or a minister. Who knows, maybe there is a little girl whose dream is to be a writer and singer. The seeds of these dreams are often found in books and the seeds you help plant in your community can grow across the world."

🛠️ How It Works

The goal is to foster a love of reading within preschool-aged families. The program operates on a simple but effective logic:

  1. Selection: High-quality, age-appropriate books are curated.
  2. Delivery: Books are mailed directly to the child's home.
  3. Accessibility: The service is free, ensuring that a family's income level Income≠Access to Literacy\text{Income} \neq \text{Access to Literacy}Income=Access to Literacy.

Eligibility Criteria: Age Range: 0≤child’s age≤5\text{Age Range: } 0 \le \text{child's age} \le 5Age Range: 0≤child’s age≤5
