Converge (YC S23) is Seeking its First Platform Engineer

Our Mission: We are developing autonomous agents designed to purchase and scale advertising for high-growth consumer brands (such as Hims and Hers).

These agents handle the entire growth lifecycle: they launch campaigns, scale budgets, analyze performance, and generate new creative assets to complete the feedback loop. Currently, these agents are responsible for over 90% of budget adjustments and manage daily spends exceeding $1,000,000.

🏢 Company Snapshot

Converge is a tight-knit team of 13 operating in-person in New York City. We have achieved significant early traction:

Total Funding$5.7M

🛠️ The Role: Founding Platform Engineer

We are looking for a powerhouse engineer to own the infrastructure that fuels our agents. While we currently have only 3 product engineers, we are already managing loads that most startups don't encounter for years.

The Scale of the Challenge

Our systems currently handle:

  • Annual Revenue Processed: \approx \6 \times 10^9$
  • Monthly Data Ingestion: 20 TB20\text{ TB}20 TB
  • Peak Throughput: 10,000 jobs / s
  • Query Performance: Real-time aggregation of hundreds of gigabytes in seconds.

Your Responsibilities

This is not a standard SRE or backend role. You will be expected to:

  1. Own the Roadmap: Define and execute the platform strategy.
  2. Solve Hard Problems: Dive deep into complex systems and infrastructure bottlenecks.
  3. Collaborate: Partner with product engineers to ensure the system scales for the world's largest brands.
  4. Leverage AI: Use coding agents for profiling queries, debugging, monitoring, and benchmark hillclimbing.

Your immediate "To-Do" list:

  • Architect services capable of ingesting 101210^{12}1012 jobs per month.
  • Analyze esoteric Clickhouse CPU and memory flamegraphs.
  • Materialize attribution datasets to enable real-time joins of billions of rows.
  • Develop a specialized SQL dialect so agents can query Converge data directly.

🎯 Is This You?

This role is NOT for you if:

  • You prefer architecting systems on a whiteboard over actually building them.

We are looking for someone with:

  • Language Proficiency: Strong Python skills, plus familiarity with more performant languages (e.g., Rust, Go, C++).
  • Database Mastery: Deep expertise in both OLTP and OLAP (specifically Postgres and Clickhouse).
  • Experience with Scale: You have personally witnessed where data-heavy systems break.
  • Pragmatism: You understand that the most elegant solution is the one that solves the customer's actual need without over-engineering.

💰 Compensation & Logistics

  • Location: NYC (In-person)
  • Experience: 4+ years
  • Salary: $180,000 — $240,000
  • Equity: 0.3% — 0.5%

NYC Office Vibe Imagine working from our NYC hub.

📅 The Interview Process

We move fast. Our previous founding engineer flew out to meet us just days after the initial call.

  1. Intro Call (15 min): A brief chat about your motivations and fit.
  2. Founder Chat (45 min): A deep dive into your history and working style.
  3. Technical Session (1h): Solving a real-world infrastructure problem we face at Converge.
  4. Superday (1 day): Spend a full day with the team building something tangible.
def interview_pipeline(candidate):
    stages = ["Intro", "Founder Chat", "Technical", "Superday"]
    for stage in stages:
        if candidate.passes(stage):
            print(f"Moving to {stage}...")
        else:
            return "Not a fit"
    return "Offer Extended! 🚀"
